Cuts, Scratches, Bruises And The Perfect Black Eye

Cuts
  • Plasto (Pati Wax) is what we used to create the cut
  • Liquid Latex to cover the wax - make sure the model isn't allergic
  • You can use Sealer on top of latex or wax
  • Woundfiller is used to fill the cut, and fake blood goes on top to make it look more realistic, 3D and it adds shine (fresh blood is bright red, old blood is dark red)
  • You can use pus if you want
  • 3 ways of applying wax - you can use Spirit Gum (wait until it is tacky to apply wax), you can use latex or put the wax straight onto the skin and cover it with latex or sealer
  • You can make up both latex and sealer
  • Supracolour palette from Kryolan is good for colouring the cuts and wounds
  • When on a film set, add liquid blood right before shooting so it falls into right position
  • When doing a cut or a wound think about what object cut the person, from which angle, how etc. also think about how old is the cut (fresh, 2 days, a week etc.)
  • Use grease paint to make the cut dirty if the person fell
  • For old scaring or blisters use Tuplast - it's clear and you can apply it straight on the skin
  • Collodion is good for split lips and deep scars -
  • When using latex and other liquids, always put the lid on
  • When creating a character with a scar on their face, first make a scar and then the rest of the make up
  • Put the wax on the back of your hand with a spatula and mould it until the heat of the of your hand makes it softer (like butter) before applying it onto the skin
  • Make sure you don't have any hard edges, blend the product nicely - moisturiser or cleanser are good for blending wax with the skin
  • Use a spatula and a pin to create a cut
  • Dry the latex with a cool hairdryer (hot air will melt the wax) - dry until clear
  • Apply woundfiller then add a bit of blood and pus if you want
  • Use a stippling sponge to add some redness around the wound

  • You can use Bruise Wheels from Kryolan, Supracolor palette or matte eye shadows
  • Do your research - think about how old is the bruise when creating it because they change colour daily (purple, red, yellow, green, dark, light etc)
  • You can make a black eye look swollen by adding vaseline, don't powder
  • You can use red eye drops and a red eye pencil to finish off the look
  • Blend the colours nicely
  • When creating a character with a bruise on their face, first do the makeup and then the bruise on top
